Coming out of L.A The Chimpz bring a fusion of Metal – Hip Hop and Punk bringing together a sound similar to that of Rage Against the Machine – but this is not to be taken that The Chimpz are a RATM clone! Far from it they carve their own sound and stomp their print firmly.
With their debut album “Home Invasion” and followed by “On Parole” “Who can I Trust” – brings us the bands third release a 5 track EP and it’s this release that I have been exposed to first.
On initial listing it becomes obvious that The Chimpz are accomplished musicians and artists and fuze their genres well. With the opening track “Victims” to “Corrupt” we are exposed to some fine Metal / Rap /Punk fusion with a great progressive sound coming from the guitars and baselines.
Killing me – is a bit more laid back but still very powerful and will have you bouncing around to a very catchy riff. Whilst the title track “Who Can I Trust” runs with a smooth baseline that hooks you in from the start, this tune and the final Mr 44 are the two track that reminded me of RATM, but as I stated above this is to be taken loosely. Artimus delivers his lyrics perfectly throughout all the songs they are clear and powerful and delivered in his own unique style.
All in all this EP has got me buzzing and I’m keen to delve in an discover more of The Chimpz and certainly look forward to further recordings from the band.
A well crafted EP that’s had a lot of thought and imagination – go and check them.
