My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult - Spooky Tricks new Album

My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult – Spooky Tricks new Album released May 6 2014

WSR – Your name stems from a B-Movie idea that never really materialized apart from the sound track that you created.  Have you ever had thoughts of revisiting that B-Movie and actually making the movie?

MLWTTKK – Actually we haven’t. The basic concept has transmuted and the music has transformed so far beyond from where we started, I think we would be overwhelmed as to where to begin. The film would have to be like 10 hours long with many different stories. Maybe we could make it a mini-series.

WSR – What was the basic plot line of the original movie?

MLWTTKK – The basis was pretty simple – teenage runaways getting caught up in a sexy Satanic-style cult, roaming the countryside in search of more victims. We never got as far as a script.

WSR – You have an opportunity for an all-star cast for the B-Movie so what stars would you put in what role and who would you have directing it?

MLWTTKK –Ken Russell would definitely be the perfect director. Actors? Probably non-actors would be better in the roles – like the Warhol superstar types. Lots of drug induced adlibbing. Lol!

WSR – So tell us a little bit about Spooky Tricks?

MLWTTKK – We took on a more voyeuristic approach to the stories this time. Peeking behind closed curtains, exposing the listener to the darker scenarios and relationships that exist in all our minds but don’t all have the will or desire to act on them. Some fantasies are better left in the head and not acted upon. Sometimes you cross the line, only to find it’s not as you imagined.

The sound of the album is like a sexy dark electro dance floor trip though the TKK maze…

WSR – What is it about DJ Toxic Rainbow that makes him a perfect accompaniment to your up and coming tour?

My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult

MLWTTKK – By his own admission he was heavily influenced by TKK as a kid, yet his music and style is completely unlike anything we’ve ever attempted. He’s not afraid to switch things up and is always experimenting with new sounds and genres – kinda like us. Perhaps if we had started out now rather than nearly 30 years ago, we might sound more like him. It will be a very diverse evening of music , dancing and mayhem!

WSR – You got to work alongside Brandon Lee for one of the most iconic films ever The Crow, what was the whole experience like for you and what do you feel is Brandon’s legacy after we tragically lost him whilst in the filming of The Crow?

MLWTTKK – We only got to hang with him briefly while in the make-up room. He was sweet, but didn’t really get to speak to him much. It was very sad to see such a young man and rising star taken so early.

WSR – Your up and coming tour only has dates in the US, do you plan to tour further afield?

MLWTTKK – No plans right now. It’s been 20 plus years since we’ve gone abroad and foreign promoters seem reluctant to give us gigs because they have no idea of who we really are, and unsure of our foreign fan base. Perhaps there’s someone out there willing to take the chance, but as it stands now, we simply can’t afford the travel costs of doing it all ourselves.

WSR – Your shows are always a work of art visually as well as musically and for this next tour you have invited fans to be part of that experience.  What is the importance of the visual art that appears on stage with you in various forms and how do you decide what goes where on stage?

MLWTTKK – Actually it’s a bit of a free for all. We kind of let everyone do their own thing. We really don’t plan a lot out. However, we do create the set pieces and videos to compliment and enhance the mood we’re trying to convey for any particular tour, but it’s up to the cast to take it from there and go with it!

WSR – How long on average does it take for you to get the whole stage show from deciding what you want to do, through getting the artists, rehearsing and then being finally prepared to take the show on the road?

MLWTTKK – The band lives all over the country, so we practice individually to backing tracks for about a month alone. We get together for about 4 or 5 days of rehearsal before the actual tour begins. The sets and visuals are thrown together pretty quick too, about a week or so before.

It’s a very fast process. Perhaps that adds to the chaos and madness of it all. It’s sink or swim!

SWR – So Delerium Tremins and Special Affect, can you tell us a little bit about that part of pre Thrill KIll Kult history please?

MLWTTKK – These were Groovie’s first experiences in the craft of performing and being a front person, and his fist attempts in writing songs along with co-writer – the talented bassist Marty Sorenson.

WSR – What has been the most trying time whilst being apart of My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult?  Has there ever been a time when you have nearly split up?

MLWTTKK – Naturally we’ve thought about moving on to other things, but TKK is our life. Being labeled as an industrial band our entire career has been a little frustrating at times, when we feel our music has nothing to do with that perceived genre. We hate being categorized. Who doesn’t?

WSR – Thank you so much for this interview, is there anything you would like to add?

MLWTTKK – Hail Satan! Just kidding.
