Propax Gig Review 17th March 2012 at Dry Bar, Manchester

This was the first time I had actually been to a gig at Manchester’s Dry Bar so didn’t know what to expect.  On arrival I saw Gary outside so we all went in to get some well-earned beer.  As we got to the bar I was upset to see no draught and the bar was just a bottle and can bar, ok fine.  So cans of Red Stripe were on the night’s menu for our delight.

Propax 3

The music started as soon as we got there, the first two bands had talent but the microphone needed turning up so you could appreciate the true quality.  The third band was my favourite of the night so far, young and really talented.

Then it came time for the band I had come to see Propax.  I was hoping that Sean would have a word with the sound engineer to turn up the vocals so you could hear the power of his vocals.  They blazed straight into the title track from their latest EP Fight Machine, this set the stage for the rest of their set.  Propax were polished and on top form as they started another from Fight Machine Bauer.  You could see and hear just what Propax were about, decent metal.  I have seen Propax a few times so it was good to hear Ride Electro but must admit I had never heard it sung with such power and played to perfection.  I must admit I really like Fight Machine so when they started Like A Truck I found myself singing along with Sean whilst getting the all-important pictures you all love to see.    Human Fuse was started and just by looking at the way the band gelled and the power they had over the audience that this was the stage of sheer perfection on Propax’s behalf.  Then came Stand another pre Fight Machine song and again I had never heard an older song played so well.  I was sad to hear Overcome, I was only sad as this was their last song.  I wanted to hear more.

I must admit I have seen Propax a few times and they are an immense live band but tonight’s gig has to be the finest I have ever seen them.  The music was polished and Propax were truly together.  The Fight Machine EP has power and style and this was magnified when these tracks were played live.  Absolutely astonishing set performed to a T.  If you like a decent live gig you will be sad you missed this one.  Give it some pasty lads, keep up the bloody good work.
