Personally I always look forward to hearing new material from Aidan Casserly, ever first hearing him in his ba
nd Empire State Human he never fails to wow your with his musical mastery, spellbinding lyrics and the haunting melodies of his vocal tones.  So when I had the chance to review his latest EP Persona I of course jumped at the chance.

Two Steps is the first track on the EP, instantly you are met by the mellow relaxing tones on piano and then very smooth lazy like synths accompany in the background.  Aidan’s vocal virtuosity carefully harness the music that you hear, seemingly following the resonance of the track.

Silence Comes follows the melancholic undertones from Two Steps, again every part of the music synergies blend with perfection.  So far this musical journey is one of a very tranquil note, this music is very personal to both Aidan but also to the listener.  Silence Comes fits its title, again the two key factors in the music which are in many ways do simple but yet extremely powerful are the piano and Aidan’s calming harmonies.

A Wild Extreme truly shows how Aidan can deliver strong emotion in a very serene manner.  The lyrical dexterity and complexity really flows in this track, you can hear how each line of each verse perfectly follows the last.  This is real chill out music with a darker side of which the darkness only comes when you focus on the lyrics, but yet Aidan manages to take away the pain that is there and brings an undisturbed air of complete relief and requiescence.

Attended By Roses is the fourth track on Persona and the feel of the song is of hope.  As with all the tracks on Persona it’s simplicity and uncluttered ness is in its own mastery.  The piano and Aidan’s vocalization create what is almost a silent symphony of two elements.

Strange Hours I Keep is yet again a spell of strength, soothing eeriness and tranquillity.  The song is long enough but yet in many aspects short because at the end of it you are left yearning for more of the feeling that flows all the way through Persona.

All songs on Persona follow the same structure, but the thing is it doesn’t need anything more and lacks nothing.  Aidan delivers a very emotion and personal chapter in music here and you feel part of it all.  This is music that you need to let yourself become immersed in and you will truly enjoy what you hear.  Aidan never fails to do amazing things and to sum up Persona its simplicity is its perfection and its a joy to hear.
