About CHRYSALIDE:

In literature, the Cyberpunk-genre began in the early 1980s; in music, it was in 2003 when the hybrid project of French brothers Arco and Syco Trauma was born.

Chapter one: The larva crawls.

After the foundation of Audiotrauma in 2002, a Strasbourg-based organisation and underground label dedicated to the digital and corrosive cultures, the brothers joined forces in CHRYSALIDE.

The project’s name, meaning chrysalis in English, originates from Greek and literally means “gold”, since butterflies often have a brighter pupa than other insects. The pupal stage follows the larval stage.

Metaphorically speaking, the word stands for the human race: We are all but worms, but within each of us hides a butterfly – which we all can become if apathy does not kill us beforehand.
Firmly rooted in dark, violent and passionate electronic music, the brothers’ project quicky grew into a creature engrossed in perpetual mutation without limits.

CHRYSALIDE’s first record , the “LOST EP”, was released in 2005 on Audiotrauma and was fittingly named in hindsight, as it is, at present, literally untraceable.
The duo addressed their preferred topics of dystopia, the devastation of consumer society, alienation and dependence within the context of new technologies as well as the quest for self in a branched-out, complex world under stark horizons.

Chapter two: The larva begins to weave its cocoon.

After two busy years of gigging in four corners of Europe with plenty of both experiment and experience, CHRYSALIDE issued their first album named ” LOST IN TO LOST WORLD “, once more on Audiotrauma. Although a continuation in style, Arco and Syco delivered a record less repetitive and richer than the EP.

Although revered by the media as successors to Skinny Puppy, whose influence CHYRYSALIDE would never deny, the project lay the foundation for a new sound within dark and lucid music. Their shows become increasingly intense, thus enticing a wider public.

Chapter three: The cocoon is woven

Despite the freedom provided by being a bicephalous entity, the brothers were conscious of their limitations and therefore decided in 2009 to welcome Amnesy (ex Neon Cage Experiment) into their fold.

The chemistry was immediately there. Amnesy quickly found his role within the creative process, particulary in the visual aspect of CHRYSALIDE.

The new trio then delved headfirst into the composition process of a new album.
This new opus was released in 2011 under the name “Don’t Be Scared It’s About Life”.

If it had been difficult to pigeonhole CHYRSALIDE before, it was now completely impossible.
Sometimes Industrial, then elements of Hip Hop. Now harsh, later epic …
This album and the following concerts did not fail to make a lot of noise within the European alternative digital movement. Additionally CHRYSALIDE played the iconic Maschinenfest, being hailed as an industrial revolution

Audiotrauma and CHRYSALIDE, which had been self-sufficient until then, were soon spotted by labels and Dependent (Europe), who decided to re-release “Don’t Be Scared It’s About Life” in their respective territories.

Chapter Four: The larva hatches and demands action

In 2014, CHRYSALIDE not only play a much anticipated first show in North America (Terminus Festival in Calgary) but also release their first album on Dependent. The sound is a new metamorphosis, less harsh than its predecessor with stronger songwriting and vocals than before. This album will mark the outbreak of CHYRSALIDE from their underground-cocoon and will put them firmly on the map of Industrial music. The title “Personal Revolution” is key and re-addresses one prime motive of Industrial music: resistance towards a mass producing antisocial and economic reality against which only the individual can rise. The album delivers what the bold concept promises: a lot of fresh air for the stagnating Noise/Industrial scene.
