This was a gig I must admit I was looking forward to, I had never been to Storm Club and also it was the first time I had ever seen or met anyone who was Russian. So what made me decide to go? Well Adriana asked me if I fancied it and I said yes. So I looked out Little Big and I was amazed to say the least, the complexity and darkness that I discovered with Dead Unicorn I wanted to know more. So in my fine wisdom I asked Little Big for an interview and I was happy as they accepted.
So the gig, well we arrived as Little Big were sound checking so we got a beer and waited until they came off stage until we introduced ourselves. With me who else but the beautiful Adriana, this time she would be invaluable to me especially. Why? Well I don’t speak Russian 😀 As we said hello we were immediately invited back stage, we were met by very friendly but slightly tired folk which is very understandable due to the amount of traveling they had done. Little Big decided to go for food and we were invited but as we had just eaten we declined so that we could see the bands that were on first. So the first two bands Byzo and Terror Crew, well they were good but as I didn’t understand what they were saying as I don’t yet understand Czech I can’t really give a valid review of them I feel. Lord Lhus, American horror hip hop and I thought he was actually really good. What upset me was his set was cut short as the crowd wanted to see Sodoma Gomora whom are quite popular in the Czech Republic. Suffice to say Sodoma commanded the crowd, people loved them and they loved the crowd. The music had power and they claimed the fame they deserved. But again I cannot pass judgment on them as I don’t speak Czech at all.
The schedule was running late, Little Big appeared on at 2am when they were supposed to be on at 1am the fact was not their fault. They started off with an amazing intro, blazing into Kalinka. We Will Push A Button came next which was followed by one of my favourites Public Enemy, I say one because I have a few likes from Little Big. You listen to Little Big and you become amazed on how good they are but I must say they are even better live which is something you rarely hear. Their stage presence was massive and they commanded respect of the audience due to this. Another of my favourites Russian Hooligans came up next followed by Pump It. Freedom came before my favourite Little Big track, so which is my favourite? Well a lovely dark anthem, Dead Unicorn which was played beautifully and so very very dark in its tone. Little Big just ooze talent and showmanship like I so rarely see. I LIKE THIS BAND. So they ask, have you had a bad day? Then blaze into What A Fuckin’ Day followed by Life In Da Trash. Can Little Big make the crowd move any more, get them any higher? Well the answer came after they played My Way, how? The song most people know Little Big for that’s how, Everyday I’m Drinking was their last song. Its a track that you just cannot stop singing at all. The audience were moving like crazy and I admit it so was I 😀 I was dancing like mad. The outro Little Big played was going straight back into Everyday I’m Drinking for a few minutes.
As we left the venue to get back everyone who was there was singing Everyday I’m Drinking which shows just how much power Little Big have, they definitely impressed me greatly. What a great set from an amazing band, really enjoyable and what a great night.
Now this is where normally the story ends, but in this case it doesn’t. Why? Well I had an interview to do with Little Big which we did the next day on Sunday. I was called by Denis, the guy who deals with the PR for Little Big. I cannot deny that Denis is a gem, a true gent to say the least. We met in Prague 2 which is where the majority of Little Big where staying. We found a Chinese restaurant which was to be the place I interviewed one of my now favourite bands. I think we may have scared the waiter in the restaurant, we were the only ones there. We chatted a bit, their English was good but I was helped every now and then with a bit of translation by Denis and Adriana. Our conversation covered all of the band and I got some amazing questions answered. The night itself was magical, I have never met such a great bunch of people in my life. What I thought of Russian people was kind of altered in a very good way. They like to enjoy themselves and they like to help others enjoy themselves too. I will always hear Little Big and smile, but I know our paths will cross again and I cannot wait to meet my new friends soon.
Amazing band, amazing live and such great people. Thank you to everyone who made the two days perfect, big thanks to Little Big, huge thanks to Denis and as always massive thanks to the gorgeous Adriana.
