Shaun Histed‑Todd is the Sonic Architect and co‑owner of Wicked Spins Radio — the person who keeps the cogs turning, the site running, the DJs organised, and the station’s identity alive. Since taking over WSR in 2012 alongside his former wife Karen Histed‑Todd and long‑time friends Tom & Jet Zegers, Shaun has been at the heart of its transformation from a US‑based rock and metal station into a global alternative music community.


At Wicked Spins Radio, all of this history converges. Shaun designs and maintains the entire digital presence — the website, the branding, the player, the visual identity — and curates the station’s expanding roster of DJs and shows. He is also the curator and host of The Snuff Monkey Radio Show, which has been running for over sixteen years. Through Snuff Monkey, Shaun has welcomed conversations and chaos with some of the most influential figures in alternative music, including Al Jourgensen (Ministry), Mark Stewart (The Pop Group), Aki Nawaz (The Southern Death Cult / Funmental), Michael Gira (Swans) and many more. WSR has always kept good company, and Snuff Monkey is one of the main reasons why.


His connection to alternative culture runs deep. Growing up in West London, Shaun quickly grew tired of chart music and gravitated toward the raw energy of The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Bauhaus. By the late 80s he was haunting the live alternative club scene around Camden and Charing Cross Road, soaking up the atmosphere of London’s underground. Brunel University’s student bar opened the door to a whole new world of post‑punk and alternative rock — The Mekons, Thee Hypnotics, Gaye Bykers on Acid, Crazyhead, Transvision Vamp — but it was Cardiacs who changed everything. Their unclassifiable, chaotic brilliance rewired his understanding of what a band could be. A genuine game‑changer.


In the early 90s, Shaun took to the road as crew for gothic rock band Nosferatu, gaining a front‑row seat to the excess, chaos, and creativity of a band making waves across the UK and Europe. Life on the road sharpened his ear and taught him to “hear with his eyes” — to understand performance, presence, and the art behind the noise.


By the mid‑90s he had moved into a ramshackle three‑storey house in Watford that soon became a creative commune known as The House of Slack. Musicians, poets, artists, and misfits filled the rooms, with Slack Mammoth rehearsing in the basement alongside home‑grown bands like Cowpuncher and The Bastard Sons. Shaun scraped a living through photography and band work, capturing the raw energy of the scene.

This period also marked the birth of Midnight Alchemy, Shaun’s long‑running creative identity as a photographer and graphic artist. Through Midnight Alchemy he has produced stage photography, album artwork, and visual design for bands and performers, channelling the same dark, atmospheric energy that shaped his musical tastes. Those visuals now bleed directly into Wicked Spins Radio’s look and feel.
His journey eventually led him into the world of Jungle, working with a music company connected to Good Looking Records, LTJ Bukem, and Intense — another shift, another expansion of his musical universe.


After relocating to London and later Devon, Shaun stayed deeply involved in live music, organising events and putting on bands — often returning to London to run nights at the legendary Slimelight/Electrowerkz under the banner Klub Wicked. It was here he cut his teeth as a promoter and reconnected with long‑time friend Hawkeye, who would later become his partner in crime for Alice’s Wicked Tea Party, the grassroots festival they founded in 2015. The festival continues Shaun’s lifelong mission: bringing unique, boundary‑pushing bands to audiences who crave the weird, the wonderful, and the wildly talented.


For Shaun, Wicked Spins Radio isn’t just a station — it’s the culmination of a lifetime spent championing the weird, the wonderful, and the uncompromising voices of the alternative world.
