One of Wicked Spins Radio\u2019s<\/strong><\/span> DJs Mike Pougounas<\/strong><\/span> is a man with an amazing history in music.\u00a0 Mike was part of Greece\u2019s greatest goth band Flowers Of Romance<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 After the Flowers Of Romance split Mike followed his musical life and then in 2006 entered into his latest band New Zero God<\/span>.\u00a0 New Zero God have a lot to live up to as they now have three of the original members of Flowers Of Romance.\u00a0 So do they live up to their past?\u00a0 Read on and you shall see.<\/p>\n

MMXIII<\/strong><\/span> is the latest offering from New Zero God and is being released through Secret Sin Records in February 2013.\u00a0 On listening to the album I find the constant thing being that typical New Zero God sound but yet that are a lot more tangents in this equation.<\/p>\n

Mike Pougounas – Vocals, Keyboards, Tambourine<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Goth is the root of the sound of New Zero God but there is a lot more than you would expect.\u00a0 Damaged<\/span> and Sinners And Lovers<\/span> are ringing with that beautiful gothic undertones through the good heavy bassy sound as well as melodic guitar work and also the low melancholy vocals on both tracks.\u00a0 The same can be said for Angeline<\/span> but this is a more upbeat goth classic.<\/p>\n

Dimitris \u201cSidheog\u201d Steves – Drums, Loops<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

You have a couple of tracks that encompass that New Zero God sound but yet throw in a few more elements.\u00a0 Hypnotised throws a little bit of psychobilly punk into the melting pot but yet New God Zero manage to maintain every part of who they are.\u00a0 No Cure For Love is a much more upbeat and up tempo goth rooted track which is played to perfection.<\/p>\n

In Dreams We Trus<\/span>t is something which I thought I would never hear, it\u2019s a happy goth track.\u00a0 It\u2019s ace, I love it.\u00a0 I can\u2019t really explain it other than it has all the elements of goth in the guitars, beat, bass and vocals but it\u2019s happy.<\/p>\n

\"Harris
Harris Stavrakas – Bass<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Pinup <\/span>has more of a rock feel but has a wonderful bassy notes very reminiscent of the late great Ian Dury, but the vocals are just so different but again it\u2019s another great track.<\/p>\n

Intoxication <\/span>is deep, doomy and depressing.\u00a0 This is goth and has all the elements like romance from that great gothic heyday, this has all the markings of a modern day goth classic track.<\/p>\n

Freakshow<\/span>, oh Freakshow.\u00a0 It\u2019s my favourite track on MMXIII, it has a solid droning bass line which is backed up by clean, fluent and beautiful guitars.\u00a0 The beat is perfect and the vocals just bite when needed.<\/p>\n

\"Lao
Lao – Guitars<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Until The End Of The Line<\/span> is the final track on the album, it ends great too.\u00a0 Amazing lulling synths and guitar almost blast into a goth explosion of great proportions. It\u2019s alluring and mystical, amazing song.<\/p>\n

New Zero God<\/span> definitely live up to their roots providing some great goth tracks but also making the music their own they add elements of punk too.\u00a0 MMXIII is a great album which will appeal to a lot of people whether you like goth, punk or rock.\u00a0 MMXIII really is goth with a distinct lack of anti-depressants and a bit more whoomph to boot.<\/p>\n
